With this laptop, Samsung is sticking its tongue out at Apple and going "Hah, ours is bigger!" The Samsung M70 is indeed a 19-inch laptop that will debut at the IFA Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin that opens September 2nd. Sure the screen size is pretty impressive, but that's not the only thing groundbreaking about the M70: The screen actually detaches from the notebook and can be placed on to a dock, thus transforming it into a monitor. This brings new meaning to the term "desktop replacement" as the M70 is not just a laptop, but really a portable desktop. And you can use the monitor as a standalone with another machine if you want to, because the monitor dock has a DVI interface.
Other stats of the laptop include a new mobile high speed CPU, a high end NVidia graphics chip (for a super-cool mobile gaming experience, we imagine), and the screen itself is a 1680 x 1050 TFT display. Plus it apparently weighs the same as Samsung's 17" model, so while it'll still be a hassle to carry around, it probably won't be too horrible. That's, of course, if you get the right bag for it, which we'll wish you luck in finding. But if you like the idea of whipping this out at your local WiFi hotspot and garnering the attention of all around you, you just might risk the back pain and the shopping dilemmas.

Other niceties on this gaming laptop/mobile workstation include: a glossy widescreen 17-inch display (up to 1920x1200 resolution), one or two Nvidia GeForce Go 8700M GT or 7950 GTX graphics cards, and up to three hard drives in RAID 0, 1 or 5 configurations. Why use a regular laptop, which limits you to a keyboard and mouse, or even a tablet which only offers one touch screen, when you can be using the Canova dual-touch screen notebook. Physically, the Omnia is a bit iPhone-lite, weighing 125g and measuring up at 112 x 57 x 12.5mm. It has a 3.2in, 240 x 400, 65,000-colour screen.
Though a rather plastic affair, the Omnia feels solid and is slim and rounded enough to slip in and out of a pocket with ease. Its external controls are limited in number: below the screen are the usual call keys and a simple action key that also doubles up as a “finger mouse” pad – more on this below.
On the right side of the handset are keys to call up the main menu – if held down this key pops up a list of all running applications – control the volume and activate the camera. Up top is the on/off key, while on the left is the Samsung multifunction port. And that's your lot.
Anyone in the habit of swapping their SIM or memory cards regularly, be warned: you have to remove the Omnia's battery to do either.
