The Nexus One is a smartphone from Google, Inc. that runs the Android open source mobile operating system. The device is manufactured by HTC Corporation and became available on January 5, 2010.

Features of the phone include the ability to transcribe voice to text, a native Gmail application, and voice directions while driving.
The phone comes unlocked and is currently offered for use with the T-Mobile mobile phone network in the United States; a version for the Verizon (US) and Vodafone (European) networks is expected in the second calendar quarter of 2010. It can be used on any GSM network worldwide, although 3G speeds will only function on certain networks.
Prices and contract
T he Nexus One was released on January 5, 2010. The phone is sold via Google's website, at a price of $529 unlocked, or a subsidized $179 when purchased with a T-Mobile two year contract. Only one plan is available - $79.99 per month rate, which includes 500 talk minutes with unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited texting/MMS, and web data. The $179 T-Mobile price is only for individuals who are not currently under contract with T-Mobile. If one currently has a T-Mobile contract without a data package, the price of the phone rises to $279.99. If the contract has both the voice and data package, the price of the phone again jumps to a higher price bracket, which is $379.99. By spring 2010, a Verizon version will be available in the US and a Vodafone model in Europe, with plans to expand the phone to other carriers and international markets in due course. Google is making the phone available for delivery to the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong, although native carrier tie-ups have not been finalized for these countries, and the phone will be shipped from the US. Customers ordering from the UK are charged $20 international shipping and an optional $19.99 for an AC adaptor, with an additional 17.5% VAT and 6.5% import duty being added. Singapore applies 7% GST, while Hong Kong does not add any additional taxes.
Software:
The Nexus One runs the Google Android 2.1 operating system, codenamed 'Eclair'.
The 2.1 firmware version of the Android operating system adds a few aesthetic changes such as "Live Wallpapers" which are animated in the background and react to different user inputs. It also replaces the "Application Drawer" with a simple button which can be pressed to access the list of applications installed on the phone. This thumbnail list can be scrolled up and down and as it's scrolled, the applications roll up into a 3D cube instead of disappearing from the screen. Once the bottom of the application thumbnail list is hit, the screen bounces off similar to the iPhone functionality.
Pinch-zooming is still not available on the 2.1 firmware of Android. However, double-tapping will zoom in. Additionally, the "Gallery" application allows the use of finger swiping to switch pictures rather than before where you had to press a "Right" or "Left" arrow key.

You dont have to carry it in your pocket or on your wrist. You can carry it anywhere, in anyform. You can roll it, bend it, put on your clothes like a clip. It also makes some form changes that makes it more ergonomical: i.e. when you want to talk on the phone, the body form turns into the form of the good old telephone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best in the way that you have chosen. The functions that it has also create a feeling of electronical pet, as it senses your moves, understand what you want, respond you in the best way. It learns you, to fit you better.Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other 888 users. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way you can talk without words.

E-motions… It means electronical motions that 888 has. You can send and receive forms from / to friends. You can send a heart shape to your girlfriend, so her telephone turns into an icon of heart. HTC's got an all-new version of its GPS-centric Touch Cruise handset, with a thinner, slicker design and a new HTC Footprints app for integrating that location data with photos and notes. Of course, the phone doubles as a traditional in-car navigation system, cradle included, with GPS and a-GPS, but there's plenty else to love here, including quad band GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, a microSD slot and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The 2.8-inch QVGA screen betrays this phone's consumer-bent, but the truly notable functionality here is actually in the software: HTC Footprints takes geotagging a step further, allowing to to take notes and audio clips and embed them in a "postcard" of sorts, all still tied to that GPS location data -- the cards are even auto-named by their location. Footprints also works outdoors and indoors, which isn't quite explained, but we're guessing it just remembers where you were when you lost a signal. There's a world-friendly WCDMA / HSPA 900 / 2100MHz version, of course, but us North Americans will be getting the 850 / 1900MHz flavor as a unlocked handset for $500 to $600 in Q2. iHome goes upscale with new Studio Series iP1 iPod/iPhone audio system

The iP1 Studio Series Model has “museum quality” speakers, which apparently means they are made up of smoked acrylic. It is nice to know that someone has finally made an iPod dock that looks like a boom box. After all, iPod and iPhone docks are a dime a dozen, but the iP1 looks like an iPod dock on crack.

According to the specs, these speakers are “100 watt class D biamplified architecture with Bongiovi sound processing through twin 4-inch woofers and matched 1-inch dome tweeters”. If you aren’t familiar with Bongiovi, he is a music producer, and the second cousin of Jon Bon Jovi. Yes, Tony Bongiovi invented the Acoustics Digital Power Station, “an active digital signal processor that the company says makes the MP3s sound better”.

This Digital Power Station is on the iP1. Other features include GSM shielding for the iPhone, and a video out port in case you want to watch video from the iPod or iPhone.

The iHome Studio Series iP1 will be available in July, for a projected retail price of about $300.

The Esprimo series of laptops, which will go on sale in August, has three models, ranging from the 12.1-inch U9200 ultraportable to the 15.4-inch D9500 desktop replacement model. All are based on Intel Core 2 Duo chipsets and feature wide screens.

Notebooks with integrated 3G have become more common over the past year and, at one point, the technology was even due to be included in Intel's Santa Rosa processing platform. However, talks between Intel and Nokia broke down, leaving the inclusion of such technology up to individual computer manufacturers. Intel is widely expected to include mobile WiMax connectivity instead in the next generation of its chipsets.

Dieter Herzog, executive vice president of infrastructure products at Fujitsu Siemens, said the Esprimo notebooks are "tailor-made for business people who do not want to lose out on any office comforts while traveling"--a feature made possible by the machines' integration of 3G connectivity.

Lenovo announced its first serious attempt to break into the consumer desktop PC market outside of China. And the result may look surprising to some: There is no cheap design here, the former IBM team actually has created a stylish PC that has all the genes to compete head-to-head with the top 3 PC vendors HP, Dell and Acer (Gateway).

Unique brands and design cues are name of the game in the PC segment these days. Dell recently brought back colors and made a first step to depart from sequence numbers for consumer PCs. Lenovo, it appears, is still trying to carve out some space for itself and the company?s new IdeaCentre K200-series offers a glimpse of its strategy.

The IdeaCentre consumer desktops (as opposed to the ThinkCentre business desktops) look a bit like a mix between traditional IBM Thinkpad and Apple design elements: Solid shapes are combined with a clean, minimalistic look that creates what we would consider one of the more stylish PCs you can buy today. We haven?t seen this PC in front of us and can?t say whether the build quality actually matches the obvious effort that went into designing these PCs.

You can get the usual range of processor, memory and hard drive configurations with prices starting around $360 (with an Intel E2180 CPU) and topping out just under $1000 (With an Intel quad-core Q6600 CPU and a Blu-ray drive), without a monitor. Lenovo will sell these PCs only through retail. Given the different configurations we are wondering how well Lenovo will be able to handle its inventory. We were not able to find any of Lenovo?s new LCDs in stock. However, if you find one, expect them to sell for $229 (19?) and $299 (22?) after a mail-in-rebate

Samsung Launches P3 Multimedia Player

Samsung has launched its widescreen portable multimedia player, P3, for the Indian market. The player was first announced at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) earlier this year.

The 0.39-inch thin P3 features a 3-inch touch screen WQVGA TFT-LCD powered by Samsung's EmoTure touch interface.

The P3 squeezes in a 16:9 widescreen video player, audio player, ultra-portable photo album, personal voice recorder, FM radio, and even a portable storage drive into one compact device.

The P3 can also be paired with a Bluetooth TM enabled phone, allowing owners to use the built-in microphone to answer calls directly through the player.

The player also features a Music Hot Touch Key, located just below the touch screen, to enable users to instantly access their favorite music features and selections without needing to cycle through multiple menus.

The P3 incorporates Samsung's updated DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement technology. The player comes with integrated speakers, along with earphones.

It allows command gesture, from swiping a finger across the screen, to switching audio tracks, to holding down a digital button for fast-forwarding video, the P3 reacts with a variety of physical sensations.

P3 is available in matte black and matte silver finishes, and is geared up to combat fingerprints and scratching, says Samsung.

The P3 is available in 8GB and 16GB storage capacities, priced at Rs.11,900 and Rs 14,900 respectively.

The entirety of civilization seems fairly well and dedicated to one-upping each other in the "green" department, and Samsung is looking to up the ante once again by stating that "blue is the new green" and putting out the new Blue Earth solar phone to prove it. Sadly, the Blue Earth isn't quite ready to go -- currently it's only to be seen in non-working mockup form, though the hardware is certainly looking good. Samsung's showing off its eco-packaging and built-in energy-saving functionality, including an "Eco Walk" function to let you know how many trees you save by walking places.

The phone itself is built from castor bean extract and recycled plastic, and Samsung claims the integrated solar panel saves up to 34.6% of the battery's energy. They're also showing off a hand-crank generator, external solar chargers, and even a solar-charged stereo headset. It's clear that Samsung isn't just playing lip service to green (or blue, as the case may be) but at this point in time this technology is likely to act more as a gimmick and promise of things to come than a truly life-changing device.

Is there any way to get Windows XP after June 30th?
Customers may continue to get Windows XP Professional by exercising Downgrade Rights that come with Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate licenses. Dell has the ability to exercise “Windows Vista downgrade rights” on your behalf in the factory if your business is still reliant upon Windows XP and you’d prefer to have Windows XP Professional preinstalled on your PCs.

So, what are Windows Vista “Downgrade Rights”?
Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate have what Microsoft calls “Downgrade Rights.” Downgrade Rights means that anyone with a Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate operating system can downgrade to Windows XP Professional provided they have the media for Windows XP Professional. Customers may use one operating system at any single point in time (cannot run both operating systems simultaneously unless an additional license is purchased). For customers who decide to exercise Downgrade Rights on their own, however, please note that Dell will only support the factory-installed operating system. Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows Vista Home Premium do not have this option, as they are not capable of downgrading to Windows XP.

What does it mean for Dell to exercise “Downgrade Rights” for me? Where can I find this option?
When you are configuring your system online or through the help of one of our sales experts, you will have the opportunity to select which operating system you would like on your PC. When selecting your operating system, you will see an option called “Genuine Windows® Vista Business with Windows® XP Pro Downgrade Rights” and “Genuine Windows® Vista Ultimate with Windows® XP Pro Downgrade Rights.” With these options, you may purchase the licensed rights to Windows Vista but have Dell factory install Windows XP Professional. You will also receive a backup media disc for Windows XP Professional as well as the media for Windows Vista so you can upgrade when you’re ready. Can I downgrade on my own?
Yes, you can as long as you have your own Windows XP Professional media (i.e. from a prior purchase). I don’t need Windows XP Professional, but I still want Windows XP Home Edition. Is there any way for me to get this from Dell?
No, Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP MCE both End-of-Life (EOL) on June 30, 2008 and do not have the capability to transition to Windows Vista (i.e. these licenses do not include Downgrade Rights provisions). Microsoft created that capability only with Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate. Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows Vista Home Premium are unable to downgrade to Windows XP.

What do I do when I’m ready to upgrade my computer to Windows Vista?
You will use the Windows Vista DVD provided to you to install Windows Vista on your computer. If you upgrade and then realize you’re not quite ready for Windows Vista yet, you also have the freedom to go back to Windows XP Professional using the Windows XP Professional CD provided with the downgrade service.

Sony has expanded its line of home theater systems to include three new configurations with integrated five-disc DVD/CD changers, the DAV-HDX587WC, DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX285, along with two new DVD players. The HDX587 and HDX589 models support 5.1-channel audio signals and offer an iPod cradle that can be used to play music or video. The systems also feature video upscaling for DVD content, along with an HDMI port for connecting HDTV sets. Digital Cinema Auto Calibration is designed to assist with proper installation, while Portable Audio Enhancer and Dialogue Enhancer are designed to enhance sound quality.

The entry-level HDX285 model also upscales DVD video signals and provides an HDMI port. An iPod cradle, Digital Media Port and DMPort Booster are built into the system. Depending on whether the user is listening to music or movies, the type of content is automatically detected and the audio optimized with the appropriate processing.

Two new portable DVD players include the DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930. The FX730 model offers a seven-inch screen and five hours of battery life, while the FX930 variant features a nine-inch display and six hours of playback. The DVP-NS710H standalone DVD player provides automatic upscaling and an HDMI port.

The DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC will be available sometime later this month, with each system priced around $430, while the DAV-HDX285 model will cost approximately $300. The DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930 portable DVD players will be available around the same time for $130 and $190, respectively. The DVP-NS710H standalone player will carry a price of $70.
